For the Month of August, PAINTNC Members are invited to come and paint out of the heat at Chambers Arts! Free for PAINTNC members on Tuesdays 10 - 4. There will be a still life set up or you can paint nearby outside and come in for a cool break.
Members must RSVP to Lynda at Chambers Arts (919) 259-6458 prior to the event.
Chambers Arts! has open studio from noon-4 each Tuesday with a still life set up ($5 an hour, whatever you can afford or free).
Life Model Studio Thursday 1-3pm (6 visits for $60 good for 3 months or $20 for single visit, whatever you can afford or free). We suggest a tip for the model as well.
Pecan trees, bits of a pear orchard in bloom, daffodils, farm outbuildings, pond, creek, forest, rolling open land, tall grasses, white houses in the distance and a rock fence. All you need is a picture of a cow to stick in the painting and you've got it.
Go 9.5 miles north of 540 on Capitol Blvd [past 98] Turn Right on Harris Rd [which is Purnell on the left] Go 1/2 mile on Harris turn right into the park

Join us to paint on the beautiful grounds - rolling hills, architecture, outdoor sculpture - or if it's hot, you can tour the museum instead and have lunch at the museum restaurant.
Popular garden center with tons of flowering trees, bushes, plants, water gardens, garden ornaments, etc. Plenty of shady areas if it's hot. Bathrooms available.

Friday, 9am - Noon Directions: From US 1/ Capital Blvd North, pass under I-540. At the second stop light turn left on Durant Road. After 1 mile, turn left onto Camp Durant Road. Follow Camp Durant Road until it dead ends in the park. 919-870-2871 Hopefully not a lot of leaves on the trees so you can find your way to the lakes and actually see what this park has to offer. Meet in the parking lot. A little hike down the right path. backpacking a good idea , restrooms, no food.
Schenck Memorial Forest is a 245 acre forest located in western Wake County about 10 minutes from the NC State campus. It is managed by NC State as a teaching and research forest. The forest is a popular recreation site for county residents who enjoy the solitude of the woods and pastimes such as bird watching and hiking. There are rolling pastures, barns and outbuildings, and horses. Visitors are welcome at Schenck Forest, but no dogs or bicycles are permitted. There are no restroom facilities; it is a short 2 mile drive over to the Olde Raleigh shopping center where there is a Harris Teeter, Starbucks, gas station, etc.
Enter the main road of Schenck Forest, located off Reedy Creek Road, just west of the intersection of Reedy Creek Road and Edwards Mill Road.
Directions from Chapel Hill: Follow I-40E towards Raleigh. Follow signs for I-440/US-1N/Wade Ave. Take the Edwards Mill Rd. exit toward the Arena and Stadium Complex. Keep left at the fork and take a left at Edwards Mill Rd. Follow Edwards Mill Rd for .7 miles and take a left at Reedy Creek Rd. Go .3 miles and turn left. Follow .1 miles to the entrance to the Forest. Park along side the dirt road.
Directions from N. Raleigh at the Crabtree Mall area: Follow Edwards Mill Road south from the intersection of Glenwood Ave and Creedmoor Extension. Go about 2 miles to the Duraleigh Rd intersection and continue going south another .8 miles. Turn right at Reedy Creek Rd and go .3 miles. Turn left and follow dirt road about .1 mile. Park along side of road near entrance to Forest.
From Cary: Follow US-1 N/US 64 E towards Raleigh. Take exit 1B for I-40 W toward RDU airport/Durham. Keep left at the fork to continue toward I-40 W and merge onto I-40 W. Take exit 289 toward US-1 N/Wake Ave/Raleigh/downtown. Go .8 miles and merge onto the Raleigh Chapel Hill Exp. Follow .3 and take the Edwards Mill Rd exit. Turn left onto Edwards Mill Rd. . Follow Edwards Mill Rd for .7 miles and take a left at Reedy Creek Rd. Go .3 miles and turn left. Follow .1 miles to the entrance to the Forest. Park along side the dirt road.
